Skillet Fried Cornbread


  • 1 cup House-Autry Medium White (Plain) Corn Meal
  • 1 to 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying


  • Step One

    Combine corn meal, water and salt; stir to make a batter.
  • Step Two

    Pour 1/4-inch of oil into a 10-inch skillet and place over medium high heat.
  • Step Three

    When the oil is hot, drop in batter by the tablespoonful.
  • Step Four

    Fry each side of patty until crispy and well browned, 3-5 minutes total.
  • Step Five

    Drain on a paper towel and serve.
