Why buy pre-made croutons when you can make them yourself? Our cornbread mix makes it easy!
- 1 (8-ounce) pkg House-Autry Buttermilk Cornbread Mix
- 2 tsp garlic salt
- 1/4 cup melted butter or olive oil
Prepare cornbread according to package directions. Cool, then slice in half, diagonally. Leave cornbread uncovered overnight to dry out. Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush bread on all four sides with butter or olive oil; cut into small cubes. Sprinkle with garlic salt and arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Cook for about 15 minutes, shaking halfway through cooking to assure even baking. Remove from oven when croutons are nicely toasted to a golden brown color.
Use croutons on your favorite salad or as a topping for soups or casseroles.
