Chicken Fried Steak
Perfectly seasoned and fried cube steak with creamy, peppery gravy—it doesn’t get much better than that.
- 8 ounces House-Autry Pork Seasoned Breading Mix
- 2 pounds cubed steak
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- Oil for frying
- 2 pounds red potatoes - quartered
- 1/2 cup House-Autry Pork Seasoned Breading Mix
- 1/2 cup olive oil
Steak and Gravy: Remove 3 tbsp House-Autry Pork Seasoned Breading Mix; set aside. Mix egg and water together in a bowl; set aside. Cut steak into pieces; dredge in breading mix. Dip steak into egg/water wash, and then back into breading mix again. Heat 1/8-inch oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Fry steak until golden brown. Remove from skillet, drain and keep warm. Pour off all but 2 tablespoons of oil. Stir in the reserved breading mix. Cook over medium heat until lightly browned. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly, until gravy thickens. Pour over steaks.
Potatoes: Preheat oven to 375°F. Toss potatoes in olive oil until well greased. Sprinkle 1/2 cup House-Autry Pork Seasoned Breading Mix over potatoes and toss until well coated. Place potatoes on lightly greased baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender, turning halfway through cooking.
Few meals taste better than Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy, roasted potatoes, green beans, biscuits with molasses, and a glass of sweet tea.
