Sausage Grits Casserole

Zesty sausage and stone ground grits are the perfect combination. Add cheddar and Monterey jack cheese and you have a delicious, filling breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup House-Autry Stone Ground Yellow or White Grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup Cheddar & Monterey Jack cheese blend
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 lb. ground sausage, cooked, drained

Directions

Cook grits, water, and salt in a covered saucepan on medium heat for 15-20 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in butter and cheese until melted. Beat eggs together with milk and black pepper in a large bowl. While whisking, slowly add grits into egg mixture. Stir in sausage. Pour into buttered 13" x 9" casserole. Bake 30 minutes at 350°F.

Chef Tip:

Like it spicy? Use Hot Italian sausage and Pepper Jack cheese to really give this dish some heat.

Meal Tips: Serve with a side salad or your favorite vegetables to make this a complete meal.
