Greek Southern Fried Fish Pitas

For a twist on the classic Greek gyro, use tilapia and our seafood seasoned breading mix!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup House-Autry Seafood Seasoned Breading Mix
  • 2 pounds Tilapia Fillets
  • 1 tsp Lamb seasoning (or Greek seasoning mix) (I use Penzy's)
  • 2 eggs, beaten mixed with 1/2 cup water (egg wash)
  • 3 cups peanut or vegetable oil (to fry)
  • 2 cups chopped tomatoes
  • 2 cups chopped red/yellow and green peppers
  • 1 cup chopped sweet onion
  • 2 tsp capers
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 4 tsp chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded romaine and arugula
  • 6 Flat breads or pitas

Directions

In a pan add seasoning mix to breading mix. Take cleaned fish fillets, dip in egg wash and then coat with House-Autry Seafood Seasoned Breading Mix. Fry fish fillets in oil until cooked, about 3-5 min on each side. Set aside. Mix all the veggies, herbs and cheese together. In a heated pita, place fish, top with 2 tablespoons of veggies/cheese mix, and add lettuce.
