Garlic Cheese Grits

The simple addition of garlic powder and sharp cheddar kicks up our grits a notch.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup House-Autry Stone Ground Yellow or White Grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Cayenne pepper to taste

Directions

Cook grits, water, and salt in a covered saucepan on medium heat for 15-20 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in butter and cheese until melted. Beat eggs together with garlic powder, milk, and cayenne pepper in a large bowl. While whisking, slowly add grits into egg mixture. Pour into buttered 13" x 9" casserole. Bake 30 minutes at 350°F.

Chef Tip:

For a stronger garlic taste, use fresh garlic.

Meal Tips: To make this recipe a complete meal, fry up some chicken or shrimp using our House-Autry Chicken or Seafood Seasoned Breading Mix. Place proteins on top of grits and enjoy.
