Broccoli and Sausage Cheddar Cheese Grits

Broccoli and Sausage Cheddar Cheese Grits

Our stone ground grits serve as the perfect base for this hearty sausage and broccoli bowl.

Ingredients

  • 1 2/3 cups House-Autry Stone-Ground White Grits
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 cup Andouille sausage, or smoked sausage removed from casings and small diced
  • Water
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup broccoli florets fresh or frozen

Directions

In a large sauce pan stir 3 cups water, heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix together until well incorporated. Add in House-Autry Stone-Ground White Grits and cook covered on high until a boil occurs. Reduce heat to low and cook additional 5-6 minutes or until grits are smooth and creamy. While grits are cooking, sautè broccoli in a separate pan with butter and 1/4 cup water. Cook covered on high for 5 minutes until broccoli is thawed or completely cooked. Add sausage and onions and sautè until caramelized, about 6-7 minutes. Plate grits on a platter or bowl with sausage veggie mixture on top. Top with cheddar cheese and enjoy!

Chef Tip:

Try this recipe with turkey sausage instead of pork.

Meal Tips: Take leftover grits and prepare grit cakes. This is a great way to save money and use up all your leftovers.
